My (Mis) Adventure in the Realm of Cuisine - Part III

This isn't so much of a misadventure as it is total ignorance.
Me and my dad went to Olive Garden last night, and somehow I got to thinking about tablespoons and teaspoons.
Now, why do we have a teaspoon, half a teaspoon, a fourth of a teaspoon, and an eighth of a teaspoon, but only just a tablespoon?
Me and my dad started to discuss that, but we were working on the (erroneous) presumption that one tablespoon equals two teaspoons.
(My mother has since corrected us; it's three teaspoons to one tablespoon, but that furthers my point.)
Why is there not a half a tablespoon?
I guess that'd be one and a half teaspoons, but really?
And that brought to my mind this: what do Europeans and -- well, pretty much everyone but Americans -- use when they cook?
Do they use cups and tablespoons?
Or is there some Metric equivalent?
. . . Or am I just over analyzing this?

Chick-Fil-A Day!

This is Chick-Fil-A at noon.
I'm actually not a huge fan of chicken, so I'm not there a whole lot, but dang . . . I've never seen it this busy!!!
There were only four parking spaces available when we got there, and people were already parked up and down the residential street. I think a couple even parked all the way over at McDonald's across the highway! (Talk about awkward -- walking to your car at MickyD's with a bag of Chick-Fil-A . . .)
I was pretty sure it would be busy; I think a few people are eating lunch and dinner there!
I have to admit I'm a bit worried about Friday . . . the . . . um . . . "event" that's supposed to happen that day. I don't think it will be a big deal here, but I pray parents will be wise enough not to take their children there Friday in cities where it will be pretty bad.
Just seeing the support people were showing for Biblical family values . . . It was awesome. God has really blessed Chick-Fil-A for their obedience and willingness to close every store on Sundays because it's the Sabbath. It's just incredible.
Though I do have to say, there are few feelings quite like wanting a CFA milkshake after Sunday dinner and realizing that just ain't gonna happen . . .

My (Mis)Adventure in the Realm of Cuisine

This summer, my mom, sister, and brother went on a mission trip to Ukraine.
That left me and my dad home alone.
Um, no, really, it wasn't exactly like that.
The two main issues were laundry - which I can do - and cooking, which I can also do.
Here's the problem with cooking, though:
I really like food.
Japanese food . . .
Mexican food . . .
American food . . .
Italian food . . .
You name it, chances are I might like it.
We had tacos some nights. Went fine.
We had stir-fry. Perfect.
We had spaghetti with alfredo dipping sauce like Olive Garden's . . . Um . . . PROBLEM.
Unfortunately, I didn't realize my error in its entirety until about . . . oh, I don't know, four days ago.
So, soon after they left, I started looking for recipes online.
That's dangerous, just sayin'.
I looked in my mom's bookmarks first, and I saw she had bookmarked Olive Garden's recipe for their alfredo sauce.
I was shocked.
Why had she never made this before; we love their alfredo sauce!
I decided to rectify this "wrong" and set out to make it.
My dad and I thought it turned out pretty good. It was, well, white, and Olive Garden's isn't, but I figured they probably used butter in the restaurant version, even though there was none called for in the recipe I saw.
It tasted almost exactly the same, though, so we just forgot about it.
A few days ago, we went to Olive Garden and me and my mom inspected the dipping sauce.
Then she asked me a question.
"Did you use egg whites or egg yolks?"
"Egg whites."
"Em . . . are you sure that's what you were supposed to use?"
"Yeah, I think so. I mean, I printed it out and was looking at it the whole time."
"That's just weird, because usually you use egg yolks in sauces."
We sorta forgot about that . . .
. . . Until a few days later.
My mom was looking for a recipe and chanced upon the alfredo sauce.
"Hey Sis?"
"Yeah?"
"Um . . . that alfredo sauce?"
"Uh-huh?"
"It calls for egg yolks . . ."

. . . Oops . . .
However!
This calls for a second shot!
